Which tree suits me?
A short guide to picking the right tree for a Jeddah garden.
Start with the sun
Count the hours of direct sun the spot gets in summer. More than six is full sun, and most of our shade trees want exactly that. Less than three and you are looking at a shade-tolerant species instead.
Then the salt
Within roughly two kilometres of the Red Sea, salt-laden wind burns the leaves of sensitive species. Filter for salt-tolerant varieties and the problem disappears.
Then the room
Check the mature height and canopy spread, not the size of the plant we deliver. A tree planted too close to a wall becomes a decade of pruning, or a cracked wall.
